How Meditation Can Help To Relieve Anxious Thoughts

Today I am going to explain how meditation can help to relieve anxious thoughts.

If you suffer from depression and anxiety like I do, chances are you have tried everything under the sun to try and control your anxious thoughts.

When I first started experiencing the worst of my symptoms, I was in a state of panic a lot of the time. There wasn’t much that could calm me down because my brain was turning over anxious thoughts on turbo mode.

It didn’t take much to set me off, and when my brain went into overdrive, it was extremely difficult for me to calm down.

I’ve since used a mixture of medications and relaxation techniques to help control my symptoms.

My Psychologist was first to recommended that I give meditation a go.

At first, and to be totally honest – I thought it was a load of rubbish. How is focusing on my anxiety going to lessen my anxiety? It seemed counterintuitive.

As it would turn out, there is a very good and rather simple reason for this.

Another amazing app is the Eka Meditation app. I really enjoy their Relief from Anxiety program – I strongly suggest you give it a try.

The main idea with meditation is to focus on the moment and your breath. Experience the moment, rather than questioning the future.

In doing so, we learn to ground ourselves and ultimately overcome the feelings associated with anxiety.

My main hurdle was taking medication. Everything that I took, I was terrified of. I thought I was experiencing all of the side effects listed on the brochure that comes with the medication.
